Meet the artist

Joizee Ha'aheo

Artist

It all started with a pencil and paper and fascination with fire. Joizee is a pyrography artist. Joizee also goes by her Hawaiian name, Ha'aheo, which means, cherished with pride. Thankful for the inspiration from her mother, she has been a Hawaiian Hula dancer most of her life. To continue her hula, she joined a hālau in 2016. She was introduced to 'Ori Tahiti dancing in 2020. With great influence from her father, Joizee also takes delight in playing golf. She gets out there to strengthen her pleasure of the game. As a Polynesian dancer, Joizee found her calling to immerse herself in the Polynesian culture. Using her continuous knowledge of Polynesia, the various languages, and the different cultures, and her passions, she strives to spread her creativity and aloha through her artwork.

Joizee specializes in small miniature ipu or dried gourd art. Each mini gourd is handmade and hand carved by Joizee. Since each gourd takes on a personality of it's own, as well as each wood piece, every item made is truly unique.

"Every art piece has a meaning. The moment I begin drawing, each piece moves me. Each piece belongs somewhere. Each piece belongs to someone. I use the traditional Hawaiian technique called "wela pa'a" or wood burning technique, to decorate an ipu or dried gourd, or piece of wood."

Mahalo nui loa! Māuruuru roa! Salamat! Thank you so much!
